The Soul Sessions
Prior to Aretha and long before Beyonce's Inaugural Ball serenade and Flo Rida's ripoff, there was Etta James.
I first heard her when I was sixteen, when my mother, (who was a librarian), would sneak home these things called tapes and CDs from the audio visual department. All sorts from Paul Simon to Queen - an encyclopedia of music waiting to be imprinted in my head through a foam set of headphones late at night when I was supposed to be sleeping. She was my first introduction into soul and why I still like to sing along to Kelly Clarkson to this day.
