I don't care for text addicted, ipod attached to their ear, swearing, walk out of the class, and don't give a shit about school teenagers. Granted I was nerd in small town, conservative high school nearly twenty years ago, but the kids I saw today don't seem to care about anything and have no discipline or motivation whatsoever. Maybe the honors class would have been different but I never got there. They ricocheted me around like a pinball to four different classes where I was basically a glorified babysitter. Now I know why so many who want to teach go into elementary. Believe it or not, they're more controllable and far more likable. I've never been so glad to leave and see my smiley faced, boys bounding off of the school bus in my life. I won't take for granted how sweet and amazing my kids are ever again.
(I tried to play it cool, not letting a bunch of self indulgent, clueless tools affect me but the repeated refrain in this song did come to mind at the time. The lyrics tell a different story but the sentiment is right. A little harmless self expression for a trying day can be good and maybe even healthy. YouTube - Tears for Fears - Shout (live))
