When recently trying to watch Dexter at one in the morning in my cloud-like bed, it became startlingly clear just why detective Debra Morgan is one of the best female characters in television. I was nearly asleep when one loud as hell, "Good motherfucking morning fuckwad!" ripped me out of a peaceful slumber and into the darkness of serial killer land again. The shouts came from Deb, who was like my very own personal alarm clock waking me from unconsciousness and briging me into the world again, as only her foul mouth could rouse me and make me both laugh and (almost) cry in the same episode.
Yeah she's a little neurotic, and a little off the mark sometimes, but she's had a troubled past and has managed to rise above it. You've got to love her determination, and her ability to fully express herself. Finally, a strong woman who has a swearing problem too. Damn, if only she were real and I worked at the Miami police department. We would so be friends. I could even take her out for some margaritas with the CSI cast, shop for some sunless tanner or some sunglasses... She could really use some cheering up right about now.
