This is a good strategy that can be applied to a multitude of tasks. Put yourself in a position where you have no other choice and you have to follow through.
Saw a really interesting program on PBS called "This Emotional Life" that supports the importance of social relationships in resilience and happiness. Just make sure that the people you surround yourself with, respect you. A person who takes it upon themselves to act on your behalf and make decisions for you is just a condescending asshole.
