One of the nice benefits of tutoring is that sometimes the student's mother is really cool and wants to give you a token of their appreciation. Gifts aren't necessary but when someone insists, what can you do? I like to keep a professional distance but sometimes when you are spending a lot of time helping their child learn in their home and communicating with them on a regular basis it's inevitable that a friendship forms. And if you're really lucky they have great taste in food and take you to an incredible restaurant.
If you ever have to choose between a certain Mexican "restaurant" or real Indian cuisine, "No quiero el Taco Bell ripoffo." Technically I've never eaten at Chipotle, so I could be grossly under estimating it's culinary greatness but I can't see how a burrito bowl could ever compare to a curry infused kaleidoscope of vegetarian visions. I don't even like many vegetables and I can't handle the burn of too much spice but if I could make what I ate today I would eat lentils and mangoes all the time. I mean, the small bowls of food resembled the most disgusting baby food or what you might find in the little one's diaper but damn! It was good. And the rice pudding, please. And tea steeped with milk at the end. I am treated to this drink every time I am over and prefer it to coffee any day of the week. I have never tasted anything like it. It's like it's been stirred with some secret magic potion of ginger delight that instantly soothes your senses.
If you haven't tried Indian food, you should. It just might be the best.
