Sweet Dreams

Tomorrow is back to school again but E. couldn't sleep.  Not even the big stuffed clown fish his grandparents gave him could ease away the dread of his overly enthusiastic teacher and her never ending list of challenging  projects.  He even wanted me to stay in his bed until he fell asleep and although I'd do anything to help him, I didn't want to baby him.  So I came up with the next best thing.

I  gathered up his favorite quilt and pillow and we set up a cozy corner of the couch to hang out and watch Sweet Genius.  The host/cake chef extraordinaire is like some German cross between Willie Wonka and the bald nemesis from the Austin Powers movie and we couldn't wait to see what crazy shit he was going to say and do next.  If you haven't seen it then you're not really a true sugar addict and you sure as hell aren't experiencing high quality entertainment.  It's spellbinding and the perfect solution to all your needs.  My son forgot about his educational troubles and drifted into sleep and I learned how to combine chicken stock and pecan logs with chocolate to create a sweet dessert inspired by the Eiffel Tower in less than 45 minutes!  Freakin' genius is right.

It's even been improving my dreams too.  Last night, after a recent episode in which The Wizard of Oz was the inspiration, I had visions of opening up my very own sugar free/ calorie free box of eclairs with my name on it and a note saying "Follow the yellow brick road to the world of desserts! "

I can't wait to fall asleep tonight.  Maybe I'll  be sailing on a river of caramel gelee lined with champagne grape lollipops.
