Days Gone By

"Mrs. B,   Mrs. B!  Did they even have video games when you were a kid?"  said the eight year old student...

So I inched one more year closer to the big 40.  I officially turned 38 last Monday but this year I'm starting to feel like I've aged at double speed.  Not because I'm frequently surrounded by kids but because of all of the changes that have happened in the last year.  From my father's sudden passing to my mother moving away to the job changes and my sons becoming more independent.  And that doesn't even cover some of the awful challenges that others around me are facing.  It feels like a significant shift of an unfair amount of shit and it bothers me.  No matter how much I try to deal with the stress and not let it shake me it does.  It wears me down which I now visibly see played out in the ever more noticeable wrinkles on my face and random gray hairs on my head. Not only that but it affects me physically making me feel ill at times when I never did before.

Thank God for Irish whiskey and that nice senior, Jehovah witness woman with the leopard print cane and purplish gray hair who looked at me with strange fascination as she told me I have "the most beautiful skin".  One restores my soul while the other gives me hope.
