On the sixth day of Christmas sub central gave to me - six hours in my son's class. I wasn't sure if it would be awkward or embarrassing for Tim for me to be teaching in his class but he was actually looking forward to it, and so was I. Later, he even hugged me, thanked me, and told me he "really enjoyed" me coming in. Do I have the best kid or what? Not only that, but after seeing how responsible and conscientious he is in class, I'm more proud of him than ever. Finally, a class that follows instructions and is semi engaged even when I had to completely improvise a discussion on material I only had about two minutes to review beforehand. (Teachers seem to just throw subs a general plan and hope they can fill in all the gaps and missing pieces as they bolt out the door.) Alan even told me a joke about a duck who walks into a bar at recess. Deep down inside, I think I'm just a geeky ten year old too. Gifted kids rock!
